Sunday: A day for long runs and lazy afternoons

Not too many people choose Sunday as their favorite day of the week, what with Monday right around the corner, but as long as I’m not traveling to Mississippi for work (which always seems to happen on Sundays), it’s at the top of my list.

This picture about sums it up.  A little bit of running, a lot of my dog, Oscar, and a fair amount of looking cool while enjoying some treats.  I usually leave the rawhides for him though — we’re still working on learning how to share.

The main reason I love Sundays is they’re the perfect mix of productivity and laziness.  It generally consists of a long run, a long breakfast, and a short reading session, usually interrupted by a long nap.  At some point, I’ll rouse myself to take Oscar on an appropriately long walk.

In the mornings, I meet up with some fellow Vassar cross country alumni for a long run in Forest Park, and afterward we get some grub.  My favorite spot is Grand Central Bakery, where they have an egg & cheese biscuit that beats all others.  My cravings for this biscuit usually start on Thursday.  Sometimes, when we decide to go elsewhere for breakfast, I’ll go to Grand Central for a second breakfast afterward, just so I can have this biscuit.  The one additional element that makes this routine just a little better is when we catch Car Talk as we drive to/from the restaurant.  That is the definition of a complete weekend morning.

I also like to think it can suffice as the definition of a complete day, as once the morning ritual is over, I am pretty much useless.  I will eventually muster the energy and assertiveness necessary to go grocery shopping on a Sunday afternoon, but other than that, I can’t be counted on for much.  And the best part is, it’s all justified (at least in my head) by the long run.
